The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Department of Emergency Medicine is
seeking physicians in the area of emergency medicine with a successful completion of an advanced emergency
medicine ultrasonography fellowship or experience in emergency medicine ultrasonography to become part of its
team of professionals. The TTUHSC El Paso Department of Emergency Medicine staffs the emergency room of
University Medical Center of El Paso, a Level I Trauma Center with approximately 60,000 visits annually.
Major/Essential Functions:
- Supervises residents and medical students in a clinical setting
- Provides performance evaluations, skill testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows, and medical
students - Participates in resident and faculty recruitment
- Attends and participates in morbidity-mortality and journal clubs
- Provides patient care in the Emergency Department
- Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in the Emergency Department
- Assists the Department Chair with the implementation of departmental policies and monitoring staffing
effectiveness - Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship
- Engages in clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations
- Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
- Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance such as committee
work, emergency medicine professional organizations, and other administrative duties - Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the
institutional mission - Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of
Faculty Professional Responsibility - Upholds and promotes the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with education of residents and medical students
- Evidence or growth in clinical, teaching and research activities related to the specialty
- Knowledge of medical Spanish
- ACLS/PALS/ATLS certifications
- Board certification in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the
American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine for the rank of assistant professor or higher
Focused practice designation in advanced emergency medicine ultrasonography by the American Board
of Emergency Medicine - Established or emerging regional or national reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher
Required Qualifications:
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency program in emergency medicine
- Successful completion of advanced emergency medicine ultrasonography fellowship training or
experience in emergency medicine ultrasonography with evidence of a minimum of 200 reviewed scans - Texas medical license or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas
