Description
Position Summary: The Cardiologist is responsible for providing comprehensive cardiovascular care to patients through diagnosis, treatment, and management of heart and vascular conditions. This role encompasses both inpatient consultations and outpatient clinical services while maintaining the highest standards of medical care and patient safety.
Essential Job Functions
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases including but not limited to coronary artery disease, heart failure, hypertension, arrhythmias, and valvular disorders
- Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures including echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, stress tests, Holter monitoring, and cardiac catheterizations
- Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for both acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions
- Provide emergency cardiac consultation services and participate in on-call rotation schedule
- Perform outpatient procedures within scope of practice and facility capabilities
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in electronic health records
- Complete required quality assurance activities and peer review processes
- Participate in departmental meetings, clinical conferences, and continuing education programs
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations including HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and hospital policies
- Collaborate with nursing staff, technicians, and administrative personnel to optimize patient care workflows
Professional Development:
- Maintain board certification in Cardiovascular Disease
- Complete required continuing medical education (CME) credits annually
- Stay current with advances in cardiovascular medicine and evidence-based practices
- Participate in professional organizations and medical societies as appropriate
Performance Standards:
- Maintain patient satisfaction scores consistent with departmental benchmarks
- Adhere to productivity targets and quality metrics as established by medical director
- Demonstrate professional behavior and communication with patients, families, and colleagues
- Complete medical records documentation within established timeframes
- Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Current board certification in Cardiovascular Disease
- Valid California medical license in good standing
- Current DEA registration
- Hospital medical staff privileges
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
Working Conditions:
- Clinical and hospital environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases
- Extended periods of standing and walking
- On-call duties including nights, weekends, and holidays
- May require lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally
